Driving the future of vehicle control
At first glance, making four wheels move might seem simple. However, the reality for our Stationary Team Red is far more complex. In their day-to-day life here at Kollmorgen, their primary responsibility is fleet management, ensuring that our Automated Guided Vehicles are efficient, safe, and cost-effective. One of the team members of this group is our System Architect, Lars. "I've been here for forty years, and I still enjoy what we do. Programming and system control development has been my passion for as long as I can remember, and being able to do this during working hours is quite satisfactory," shares Lars. Lars' team comprises approximately ten people with software development, scrum, testing, and documentation expertise. Currently, the team has a mixed codebase of C/C++ and C# but is gradually transitioning towards a C# / .Net Framework. Together, they are supporting our existing and already implemented systems for Automated Guided Vehicles, as well as developing new features that suit our customers' needs.
"The best part of my job is when my colleagues and I succeed together. In our team, we cultivate an open environment where there's room for all questions, and the free exchange of opinions is encouraged. This open culture fuels our motivation to complete tasks and collaborate effectively, which is crucial in our work," Lars continues.
As we speak, Team Red and the rest of the people here at Kollmorgen are working on a significant project: to replace the entire system communication infrastructure. It's a substantial task that requires everyone's expertise and collaboration.
"I appreciate our cooperative, cross-functional environment and the constant opportunity for testing, independent thinking, and innovation. If you have an idea for improving a product or system, go for it, and while you are at it, bring someone along to make it even more efficient! We also involve our customers when developing new features, which is a great way to get real ' data ' from the users to deliver the best possible feature set, adapted to their needs."
A lot has happened since Lars first set foot at Kollmorgen. The team has adapted new working methods and tools, and the tasks have become even more advanced and complex. Still, the strong collaboration, shared joy, and passion for vehicle control remain unwavering.
"After spending some time cracking the nut and then deciding to head to the testing facility and seeing that your solution actually works, it's definitely worth celebrating! It's truly fantastic to witness what you're working on ultimately proves itself."
