Gustav's journey started with a summer job!
From soccer-pro plans to law studies and a year of technical preparation – he finally stepped into our office two summers ago. We're happy he never left. Say hello to our Software Quality Assurance Engineer, who plays a different kind of ball game now, Gustav Hallberg.
Together with the Quality Assurance team, Gustav develops smart solutions for testing. But the journey towards this position was through some detours, which led him to Chalmers and Complex Adaptive Systems.
“I played in the second-highest league here in Sweden and went to a soccer high school in Växjö. When I got injured, I decided to put the cleats away and start studying again. After two years of law studies, I realized it wasn’t my cup of tea. So, I started a technical preparatory course and had an amazing teacher in mathematics. It’s because of him I decided to study mathematics at Chalmers.”
Two years ago, Gustav started a summer job at Kollmorgen. He joined the Software Quality Assurance team and helped us develop our video library, where he was in charge of the layout and design. A year went by, and last summer, he worked on developing our IT projects. But soon enough, he got pulled into another project because of his expertise in Java.
“From that summer on, I worked on big projects within the company. I feel that I brought a lot to the table from the first day, and last fall got temporarily employed, which led to full-time employment. Kollmorgen is great in that way. They care about their summer workers. It’s a welcoming atmosphere where you learn a lot, and if you do a good job, there is a great chance for employment after your studies.”
Gustav started working in the Software Quality Assurance at the end of last year. He developed in Python and some in Robot framework, where he built up an FTP server for file management and further developed the ART framework. After that, there was an opening as a QA in the stationary team. Which, according to Gustav, was a natural transition from framework to testing.
“My former boss told me about the opening. It’s a good position if you want to slip into the stationary team where we solve problems and develop applications. I feel good about this transition. I work specifically with one product, which I enjoy.”
The best thing about Kollmorgen, according to Gustav, is the freedom in the different roles he has worked in so far. But also, that he feels appreciated. And what is the next step, you might ask? To learn and get comfortable in his new role – but also a running tour around Stockholm.
“For some reason, I have signed up for Stockholm Marathon. This afternoon I will run 10K for the first time in eight years. We will see how it goes.”
But while looking back at the journey Gustav has done to be where he is today, we’re pretty sure he will fly through the streets of Stockholm.
